What is a
DPL / IPL Photofacial?

That patchwork of sun spots, redness, and broken capillaries that builds up over years of sun exposure — a photofacial is one of the most effective ways to address all of it at once.

DPL (Dual Pulsed Light) and IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) are broadband light therapies that emit precisely calibrated wavelengths of light energy. The light is selectively absorbed by the chromophores responsible for pigmentation and redness — melanin in dark spots and hemoglobin in blood vessels — leaving surrounding tissue untouched.

The treated pigment darkens temporarily and flakes off over 7–10 days. Dilated blood vessels coagulate and are reabsorbed. What remains is clearer, more even, more luminous skin.

Unlike resurfacing treatments that require significant downtime, a photofacial lets you walk out and return to your day — with a slightly flushed face and the knowledge that your skin is actively improving beneath the surface.

One treatment. Multiple concerns addressed. Zero recovery time.

DPL / IPL is a broadband light therapy that addresses pigmentation, redness, acne, sun damage, and broken capillaries simultaneously — in a single session. Most other treatments require separate appointments for each concern.

Most clients experience mild redness and some darkening of pigmented spots for 3–7 days post-treatment. There are no open wounds, no peeling, and no activity restrictions — you can return to work the same day.

A single photofacial delivers visible improvement, but the full benefit of DPL / IPL is cumulative. Most clients see their best results after a series of 3–5 treatments spaced 4 weeks apart.

DPL / IPL can be safely applied to the face, neck, chest (décolleté), and hands — anywhere years of sun exposure and vascular irregularity have taken their toll.

The same expertise.

Frequently
Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before your DPL / IPL photofacial at LovMedSpa.

What skin concerns does DPL / IPL treat?

DPL / IPL photofacial is most effective for sun damage and age spots, freckles, redness and rosacea, broken capillaries, uneven skin tone, and mild acne. It works best on fair to medium skin tones and is not recommended for very dark skin tones or active tans.

How many sessions will I need?

Most clients see significant improvement after 3–5 sessions spaced 4 weeks apart. A single session produces noticeable results, but the full benefit of photofacial is cumulative — each treatment builds on the last.

Is there downtime after a photofacial?

Immediately after treatment you'll be slightly red and flushed — similar to a mild sunburn. Pigmented spots will darken over the next 3–5 days before flaking off. Most clients feel comfortable returning to work the same day, though the darkening spots can be visible for up to a week.

Does a photofacial hurt?

Most clients describe each pulse as a quick snap, like a rubber band against the skin. The sensation is brief and well-tolerated. We apply a cooling gel beforehand to minimize discomfort, and the treatment itself takes 20–30 minutes.

Can I combine a photofacial with other treatments?

Yes — photofacial pairs very well with RF microneedling, chemical peels, and Hydration Facial. Your provider will advise on the optimal sequencing. Resurfacing treatments like CO2 laser should be performed on separate visits with adequate healing time between them.
